MERVYN KING

Mervyn King, born 6 March 1971 in Sittingbourne, England, turned professional in 1993 and became one of the most respected players of his generation. Known as “The King”, he competed at the top level across both the BDO and PDC circuits over a career spanning more than three decades.

King holds 8 PDC titles and has recorded 6 perfect nine-darters, a figure that reflects both his longevity and clinical finishing ability. His standout result on the biggest stage came at the PDC World Championship 2007, where he reached the final before losing to Raymond van Barneveld in a memorable five-set encounter at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet. That performance confirmed him as a world-class competitor capable of operating under maximum pressure.

Entering the stage to “I’m A Believer” by Smash Mouth, King was known for a composed, measured style that contrasted with more flamboyant contemporaries. His consistency across different eras of the sport, combined with a high nine-darter count achieved over three decades of competition, places him among the most technically accomplished players England has produced at professional level.
