Top-level darts is run by several bodies with different roles. The Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), founded in 1992 by sixteen professional players, runs the professional circuit: the World Darts Championship at Alexandra Palace, the Premier League, the majors, and a world ranking based on prize money won.
The World Darts Federation (WDF), founded in 1976, is the international federation for traditional darts. It brings together the national federations of more than 70 countries, runs its own world championships and publishes a points-based world ranking. Alongside these federations, private organisers such as MODUS stage their own events, like the MODUS Super Series streamed from Portsmouth.
