Dennis “The Menace” Priestley holds a unique and historic place in professional darts as the first ever PDC World Champion, claiming the inaugural title in 1994 when the WDC breakaway from the BDO created a new professional era. A gruff, determined competitor from Yorkshire, Priestley combined powerful scoring with streetwise match play to overcome his opponents. His victory in that landmark first championship established the foundation upon which the entire PDC superstructure was later built. Priestley went on to enjoy a long and successful career on the PDC circuit, becoming a familiar and respected figure within the professional game.
